When Cougar Dates Manwhore by Jewel Quinlan

Ruth West - Monday, September 11, 2017

Meet Jewel Quinlan, author of When Cougar Dates Manwhore (The Cougar Journals Book 4). Today she goes in-depth about her first kiss, her most adventurous experience, how she handles negative reviews, and more!

Do you have any hobbies?

Many! I love to explore life. Currently, I am still in possession of a pair of roller skates, which I break out once in a while. It’s the one childhood hobby I still haven’t let go of even at the ripe age of fourty-four. I am an advanced snow boarder and I also do yoga. In the past, I show-jumped horses for many years. Aside from reading and movies (of course) I also have been learning German for several years. I speak and read it at an advanced intermediate level now and I love it! A couple of summers ago, I also had some kite-boarding lessons, which were awesome! I’m hoping to get a few more lessons in before this summer is over and even purchase my own gear soon. Gosh, there’s so many possibilities. Life is great!

Tell us about your most adventurous experience.

I am one of those crazy people who often goes on vacation by themselves. The funny thing is that, when I do, I am never alone. I seem to meet the most interesting people right away and get invited to go along with them to do fun things. So now, I almost prefer to go on vacation by myself. LOL. It’s like telling the universe “bring me what I should have.” A few years ago, I decided to go on a week-long ski vacation in Austria (from Christmas to New Year’s). There at my hotel I got to know six other guests (most of them were traveling in pairs), and we had the greatest time skiing together, having dinner together, hanging out in the spa together. I am still friends with several of them to this day. We stay connected via Facebook and Whats App. And, while I was in Germany recently on another vacation I was able to meet up and have dinner with some of them. It’s times like these that make me feel that life really is magical and blessed.

What was your first kiss like?

It was pretty amazing. I’m not going to lie. One year, while I was in high school, my parents decided to host the son of one of my father’s French business associates for the summer. I was initially unhappy about having some stranger in the house at the time. Being that he was my age, I would no doubt get caught having to entertain him, I thought. And then … he arrived. And, oh man, was he gorgeous! Tall, with rich brown hair, green eyes, and a hot accent. Thankfully, he liked me, too. Needless to say, we shyly bonded that summer and experienced our first kiss together. Imagine that, my first French kiss from a real live French boy! I still remember the song that happened to be playing in the background, Pour Some Sugar On Me by Def Leppard. LOL. Oh well, not everything has to be perfect. Now, every time I hear that song I remember him and all the wonderful love letters he wrote me after he went back home. I don’t think my first kiss could have gone much better than that.

Are you an introvert or an extrovert?

I was born an introvert. This has been confirmed over the years as the industry I work in during the day likes to have us take personality quizzes. In fact, my latest boss just sent us another one to do. But, yes, I am an introvert and happy to be that way. What it really means to me is acknowledging where I get my energy from. Introverts need alone time. We need to sit with ourselves, tap into the mystic energy, and sort out life’s questions in silence away from the chatter of others. It also makes us well suited for jobs (like writing) where we spend a lot of time working independently on cerebral tasks. We can sit quite happily doing things on our own for a while. Not that we don’t like people. We do love others and can get lonely. But after we get caught up and have had some fun together, we need to go off on our own again.

I also have developed my extrovert side because I work a sales job during the day. But even though I am good at sales (introverts do a good job of listening and asking the right questions), having to go out and connect with various people every day has always felt like wearing a shoe that is one size too small. Even after ten years, it still feels that way because it’s not natural to me. But it has been good to learn to distinguish the difference because now I can tell for sure when I am functioning in my inherent strengths. When I write, I often slip into that zone where time and even the computer screen disappear from in front of me. I get caught up in the flow of creation. And when I finish, I feel fabulous!

How do you handle negative reviews?

I think negative reviews are a just a part of life. I have learned to accept that my books are not going to be everyone’s cup of tea. And, even more importantly, I respect that readers have the right to hold whatever opinion they would like. Does it mean that every negative opinion is true or correct? Not necessarily. But they often hold seeds of constructive criticism that I find useful as an author. It’s just one of those life lessons that not everyone is going to like you, and I accept that. And, at the end of the day, I know that I give 100% effort to writing each and every story I put out, and my best is all I can do.

Drunk Dial by Penelope Ward

Ruth West - Monday, September 04, 2017

THE NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER
From New York Times bestselling author Penelope Ward, comes a new, sexy standalone novel.

It seemed like a good idea at the time. Look up Landon Roderick, that boy from childhood whom I'd never been able to forget--even though he so easily forgot about me--and call him.

Then again, anything sounds like a good idea when you've had a little too much wine before bed, right? It was supposed to be just a quick, meaningless, prank call. Instead, I went off on him--unloading thirteen years of pent-up emotions.

I didn't think he'd call me back.

I certainly could never have anticipated the weeks of sexually tense phone conversations that followed as I got to know the man he'd become.

Turned out, Landon had never really forgotten me, either. That special connection we had was still there. I opened up to him, but there were also things about me he didn't know. And he had his own secrets.

Over the countless hours we talked on the phone, I wondered what would happen if we actually saw each other. One night, I did something impulsive again. Only this time, I went to the airport and booked a ticket to California. We were about to find out if one phone call could bring two lost souls together or if my drunk dial really was all just a big mistake.

A complete STANDALONE.

Stay by Bella Bryce

Ruth West - Saturday, August 19, 2017

In the sixth book in the Waldorf Manor series, perhaps it's time to choose whether or not to
Stay

Identity can make or break a person, and no one knows that better than Damian Fowler or Alice James. Two people from contrasting backgrounds in the same circle, still fighting the demons that lurk in the space between them and the people they love.

Being a Fowler has never felt like a privilege, but a burden. The spotlight shines on Damian when an unexpected offer puts him in a familiar position – with his brogues heading for the door.

And what of Waldorf? Even before Alice can savour the new and idyllic situation whereby her father has married, that joy is robbed. Fear supersedes confidence. Uncertainty replaces content. Co-parenting and the reality of life in a domestic discipline dynamic requires major adjustments to expectation, for all three of them.

Laugh, cry and page-turn with the cast through another partition of a much bigger story that is the Waldorf Manor series.

P.S. From Paris by Marc Levy

Ruth West - Monday, August 07, 2017

From Marc Levy, the most-read French author alive today, comes a modern-day love story between a famous actress hiding in Paris and a bestselling writer lying to himself. They knew their friendship was going to be complicated, but love—and the City of Lights—just might find a way.

On the big screen, Mia plays a woman in love. But in real life, she’s an actress in need of a break from her real-life philandering husband—the megastar who plays her romantic interest in the movies. So she heads across the English Channel to hide in Paris behind a new haircut, fake eyeglasses, and a waitressing job at her best friend’s restaurant.

Paul is an American author hoping to recapture the fame of his first novel. When his best friend surreptitiously sets him up with Mia through a dating website, Paul and Mia’s relationship status is “complicated.”

Even though everything about Paris seems to be nudging them together, the two lonely ex-pats resist, concocting increasingly far-fetched strategies to stay “just friends.” A feat easier said than done, as fate has other plans in store. Is true love waiting for them in a postscript?
