Tale Twisters

Twisted fairy tales are hot right now, we see them on the big screen and on the TV screen. I’ve loved them since I first discovered a book of short fairy tale twists including one dark tale by CJ Cherryh that I wish I still owned. Darn those constant moves of my youth, so many lost books. Thank goodness authors took a chance and played around with the classics. I fell in love with the idea of taking a story that has all the right elements: romance, magic, girl in trouble, handsome guy, and something ugly, and making it my own. I got to change the things I didn’t like about the story and keep the things I loved.

That’s why all of my stories to date have been twists on fairytales. If you’ve read my spicy, new adult novellas, you’ll know my twists are different. You may not recognize the original story right away, but I keep enough elements that you’ll have fun when you find them. This series is darker, longer, and set in two worlds, ours and the world of the fae.  Read More

Something to Believe in: Council Courtship

When I sat down to write Council Courtship, I didn’t conceive a story that would be so focused on convictions. In fact, I was set to write a story that would highlight the differences between the fairy world I had developed and the human world as we all know it. It was only when I started to enumerate those differences did the plot show itself to me.

Because the world that Tristan and Quinn come from is reminiscent of earthly places in recent history, it was easy for me to see how restless the young people would be. Some of this groundwork had been laid in Fairyproof – Monique fled the fairyworld (The Realm) to avoid an arranged marriage.

Freedom to choose her own mate is one of the things Quinn is longing for too, but for her it goes deeper than that. Read More

Sucking Blood – Hot or Not?

We read about vampires all the time, and in current times, they’re always the dark, mysterious, yet sexy character that every woman wants desperately.

But the other day, I saw some candy for sale. It was in a blood bag and said B Positive across the front. Since I write about vampires, I was immediately drawn to it. I purchased a few; one for myself to try and the others to bring to a book signing where I’d give them away. Since I’m not big on sweet beverages anyway, it didn’t surprise me that I didn’t exactly enjoy it.

This experience had me think of today’s topic. Is drinking blood really that hot? I mean, if I’m actually thinking about biting through someone’s skin and sucking down their warm blood, I get a little grossed out. But when I think of a scene I wrote in Dissension (excerpt is below)… I liked it! Read More

Truth and Accuracy: What’s the difference?

They’re the same right? Wrong; well at least not in my opinion. I’ve written professional medical reports for 20 years, been published in non-fiction, worked as a paid website content provider and written fiction for almost 30 years and I’ve learned that truth and accuracy can differ widely. Why does it matter? What is truth to one person may not be so for another. While a statement or description may be true or based in truth, it may not be accurate to the specific item or event.

Truth is defined as: “conformity to knowledge, fact, actuality or logic” and accuracy is defined as: “exactness, correctness”. Sound similar, don’t they? But they can be viewed quite differently when details are important.

Example: The sky is blue. Is this a true statement? Of course, one can ask any random person and they would agree upon this universal truth. However, is that an accurate statement? Perhaps. It can depend on current weather conditions, time of day, physical location, personal perception and many other variables.  Read More

Blurb:
As High Priestess of the most up & coming Coven in the world, Reece Crawford figures that her future has already been mapped out for her. Unfortunately, being High Priestess with incredible power can be too tempting for other supernaturals. Sexy witches, warlocks, vampires, and werewolves all play a part in this exciting and intriguing series.

Excerpt:
Reece closed up her altar room just as she heard a knock on her bedroom door. Nathan stuck his head in cautiously. “Is it all clear?” he asked.
Reece gave him a tired smile and waved him in. She sank down into her bed, still wearing the beautiful gown and fell back into her pillows. She was always so drained after doing a spell. After her Kindling, it would be different. The power she would have would be welcome. She turned her head in Nate's direction and blew out a breath. “Earlier today, I felt someone using black magic. Piers ‘fessed up to it. I've not asked specifics, and I don't want to. He's changing now, I'm sure you see it as well. His temper is out of control and I'm afraid of what he's planning on doing to you, to anyone that upsets him in any way,” she told Nate is a somber tone.  Read More
